Engineering Beyond Evolution
Rather than refining an existing model, Richard Mille approached the RM 41-01 as a conceptual leap. Building on the sporting lineage of earlier references such as the RM 11-01 and the RM 11-04 created for Roberto Mancini, this latest piece moves into entirely new territory.
At its core lies a newly developed caliber—five years in the making and produced in collaboration with Audemars Piguet. The titanium movement integrates a tourbillon escapement and a flyback chronograph with overlapping central minutes and seconds, underscoring the maison’s uncompromising mechanical standards.
Yet the true innovation reveals itself through two unprecedented complications tailored specifically for football.
Designed for the Game
Positioned at 9 o’clock, a dedicated match-time indicator tracks the progression of play. With each reset of the flyback chronograph, the display advances seamlessly from first half to second, and even accounts for extra time—mirroring the structure of professional competition.
Encircling the openworked movement, twin mechanical goal counters allow the wearer to register up to nine goals per side. Activated via pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock, the counters glide along metallic rails before returning to zero—an ingenious nod to the scoreboard drama that defines tournament play.
Despite its technical complexity, the timepiece maintains a 70-hour power reserve, ensuring performance that extends well beyond a single match.
A Case of Innovation
True to the brand’s architectural aesthetic, the RM 41-01 is housed in its signature tonneau-shaped case. For this edition, two striking material executions are offered: a newly introduced maroon Basalt TPT—derived from volcanic rock and prized for its resilience against UV exposure and corrosion—and a deep-blue Quartz TPT variant.
Every surface has been meticulously skeletonized, with microblasted bridges and dark PVD coatings enhancing both legibility and visual drama. The result is a watch that feels as technical as it is sculptural.
