Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a striking vision of modern luxury with its latest concept, the Vision Iconic, a statement car that bridges the romance of the 1930s with the intelligence of tomorrow.

Unveiled in Shanghai, the Vision Iconic revives the sculptural allure of the Mercedes-Benz Typ 540K Autobahn-Kurier (1938) — a masterpiece remembered for its sweeping lines and aerodynamic elegance. Yet beneath the nostalgic silhouette lies an all-new expression of digital craftsmanship and design futurism.
A Modern Ode to Art Deco
Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener describes the Vision Iconic as a return to “classic luxury,” inspired by Art Deco’s geometric purity and timeless sophistication. The car’s proportions echo the grand touring legends of a century ago — with its elongated hood, rounded fenders, and sloping tail — while a reinterpreted radiator grille, now animated with pixel lighting, glows like kinetic jewelry.
This illuminated façade, encased in smoked glass and chrome, serves both as a visual signature and a symbol of Mercedes-Benz’s evolving design language — merging heritage with high technology.

An Interior of Craft and Poetry
Inside, the Vision Iconic transforms automotive interiors into a stage of artistry. A glass “Zeppelin” instrument panel floats elegantly across the dashboard, awakening with an analog-style animation upon entry. Deep blue velvet bench seats, brass details, and straw marquetry floors evoke the intimacy of a 1930s salon, handcrafted with modern precision.
A pearl-finished marquetry surface, decorative inlays, and the signature Mercedes star clock — doubling as an AI companion — redefine what analog luxury means in an increasingly digital world.

The Radiant Future of Mercedes-Benz
The Vision Iconic also debuts a solar-reactive paint technology, transforming the car’s surface into a photovoltaic skin that continuously harvests energy from sunlight. Mercedes-Benz notes a remarkable 20% efficiency rate, with the coating designed to be fully recyclable — a nod to sustainable luxury without aesthetic compromise.
Alongside the reveal, Mercedes-Benz presented a six-piece capsule collection echoing the car’s Art Deco elegance — featuring tailored silhouettes in midnight blue, gold, and silver — in tribute to Shanghai Fashion Week.

Smart Home on Wheels
Reflecting on the concept’s philosophy, Wagener describes the Vision Iconic as “a smart home on wheels — where warmth, tactility, and technology coexist in harmony.”
More than a show car, the Vision Iconic represents a manifesto: that the future of luxury will not abandon tradition, but rather illuminate it — pixel by pixel, line by line.
