Damien Hirst’s Kaleidoscope Finds A New Canvas In Dom Pérignon

The British artist extends his Kaleidoscope series across two limited-edition bottles, pairing Dom Pérignon Vintage 2018 and Rosé Vintage 2010 with vibrant new artworks.

Dom Pérignon is once again bringing contemporary art into the world of Champagne, this time through a collaboration with British artist Damien Hirst.

The partnership introduces two limited-edition bottles, featuring new artworks from Hirst’s Kaleidoscope series. The collaboration brings together two very different forms of craftsmanship: the meticulous creation of a Champagne vintage and Hirst’s approach to colour, composition and repetition.

For Dom Pérignon, the project continues a long relationship with artists and creative figures, while Hirst sees a natural connection between the processes of winemaking and artistic creation.

Where Art Meets The Vintage

The collaboration centres on two expressions: Dom Pérignon Vintage 2018 and Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2010.

The Vintage 2018 is presented in a deep blue design, while the Rosé Vintage 2010 takes on warmer pink tones inspired by the expression of Pinot Noir.

Rather than treating the artwork as an afterthought, the visual language extends across the bottles and accompanying packaging, transforming the familiar Dom Pérignon shield into part of Hirst’s colourful compositions.

The result is a pair designed to be experienced as much as displayed.

Hirst’s Kaleidoscope

Hirst’s Kaleidoscope works are built around intricate arrangements of colour and repeated forms. For the Dom Pérignon collaboration, that visual vocabulary finds an unexpected parallel in Champagne itself.

Hirst has described the relationship between the two processes as one of trust, experimentation and patience. An artwork evolves through decisions, adjustments and unexpected developments; a vintage similarly reflects a long process shaped by nature and the decisions made by those who guide it.

That connection sits at the centre of the collaboration.

The artist has also pointed to the relationship between the composition of his Kaleidoscope works and the assemblage of grapes that ultimately becomes a vintage.

A Tradition Of Creative Collaborations

The collaboration continues Dom Pérignon’s history of working with artists and cultural figures.

The Champagne house has previously collaborated with creative names including Andy Warhol and Takashi Murakami, while more recent projects have brought together figures from music, film and contemporary culture.

Hirst now joins that lineage with a collaboration that places his distinctive visual language directly onto the bottle.

For a Champagne house with such a recognisable identity, the challenge is not simply to decorate the bottle, but to create something that still feels unmistakably Dom Pérignon while carrying the signature of another artist.

Two Vintages, Two Expressions

The two bottles are deliberately differentiated.

The Vintage 2018 is represented through deep blue, creating a cooler and more graphic expression. The Rosé Vintage 2010 uses warm pink tones, reflecting the deeper and more intimate character associated with the wine.

Dom Pérignon describes the two vintages as contrasting personalities: one more solar and taut, the other more intimate and shadowed.

Together, they form a deliberately collectible pairing in which the Champagne and the artwork are presented as parts of the same creative conversation.

Champagne As A Canvas

The luxury world has increasingly blurred the boundaries between collecting categories. A bottle can become a design object; a watch can become sculpture; an automobile can become a work of art.

Dom Pérignon x Damien Hirst sits comfortably within that movement.

The collaboration takes something traditionally associated with celebration and consumption and gives it another life as an object of design and collecting.

For collectors, the appeal is therefore not limited to what is inside the bottle. It is also in the collaboration itself, the limited nature of the release and the relationship between Hirst’s artwork and one of Champagne’s most recognisable names.

With Dom Pérignon x Damien Hirst, the bottle becomes part of the artwork.

The Business of Being Yourself. Yasmin Furmie, co The Business of Being Yourself.

Yasmin Furmie, co-founder of SiSi The Collection, talks to Grandiose about personal style, collecting with intention and building a design language that refuses to follow the crowd. Her philosophy is perhaps best captured in the words she uses to describe William Kentridge designers including Lezanne Viviers, Thebe Magugu, Rich Mnisi, Sindiso Khumalo and Lukhanyo Mdingi, Furmie makes a compelling case for individuality, excellence and staying true to what you believe in.

She also reflects on reinvention, creative freedom and the importance of allowing yourself to change direction. Her philosophy is perhaps best captured in the words she uses to describe William Kentridge: “The work speaks for itself.”

KARUIZAWA 1960: THE WHISKY BOTTLE THAT EXISTS TWIC KARUIZAWA 1960: THE WHISKY BOTTLE THAT EXISTS TWICE IN HISTORY

On 18 September, Sotheby’s will offer one of the most extraordinary bottles in Japanese whisky collecting: Karuizawa 1960 Cask #5627, “The Prototype.”

Estimated at $400,000–$600,000, the bottle was drawn directly from Karuizawa’s oldest cask on 20 December 2012, before the celebrated 1960 vintage was commercially released.

Only two bottles were ever hand-filled directly from Cask #5627 at this pre-release stage.

This bottle was filled by Osami Uchibori, Karuizawa’s final Master Distiller, who had worked at the distillery since the cask was originally distilled in 1960.

Matured for 52 years, Cask #5627 ultimately yielded just 41 commercially available bottles.

The Prototype is more than an exceptionally rare whisky.

It is a surviving piece of a distillery that can never produce again.

Some bottles preserve whisky. Others preserve history.
