LEGO Reimagines Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss in a Stunning 4,000-Piece Masterpiece

Some works of art transcend generations, cultures and mediums. More than a century after Gustav Klimt completed The Kiss, the celebrated masterpiece is being reimagined in an entirely new form. Through an unprecedented collaboration with Vienna’s Belvedere Museum, LEGO has transformed one of the world’s most iconic paintings into its largest art-inspired set to date, inviting collectors and art lovers to experience the masterpiece brick by brick.

The LEGO Group continues to blur the line between collectible design and fine art with the unveiling of a remarkable 4,000-piece recreation of Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss.

Developed in partnership with Vienna’s historic Belvedere Museum, home to the original painting, the new LEGO Art set pays tribute to one of the defining works of the Vienna Secession movement while offering enthusiasts a hands-on encounter with one of art history’s greatest masterpieces.

Available from 1 August, the set will retail for $299.99(R4,808), becoming LEGO’s largest painting-inspired creation ever released.

A Masterpiece Reimagined

Rather than simply reproducing Klimt’s famous composition, LEGO has introduced a new dimension to the celebrated artwork.

Using layered construction techniques, builders gradually assemble sections of the painting to create depth and texture, transforming the traditionally flat canvas into a striking three-dimensional interpretation. The finished piece measures approximately 60 × 54 centimetres and includes a built-in wall mounting system, allowing it to become a display piece worthy of any contemporary interior.

The project also embraces digital innovation through the LEGO Builder app, which offers interactive 3D instructions that guide builders through the intricate assembly process.

Preserving Klimt’s Artistic Legacy

Authenticity remained central throughout the collaboration.

Stephanie Auer, Curator of 19th and 20th Century Art at the Belvedere Museum, worked closely with LEGO Master Model Designer Milan Madge to ensure the final design remained faithful to Klimt’s artistic language.

From the shimmering gold tones and intricate ornamentation to the symbolism and decorative geometry that define The Kiss, every design decision sought to honour the spirit of the original while embracing LEGO’s distinctive creative medium.

The result is more than a model—it is an interpretation that celebrates one of the most recognisable paintings ever created.

Where Art Meets Design

LEGO has steadily expanded its presence within the world of fine art, collaborating with some of the world’s leading cultural institutions to reinterpret celebrated masterpieces.

Previous releases have included Claude Monet’s Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies, developed with New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers in partnership with Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum. The company has also recreated Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Robert Indiana’s LOVE, and Hokusai’s The Great Wave.

Yet none have matched the ambition or scale of this latest project.

With nearly 4,000 pieces, The Kiss becomes LEGO’s most elaborate artistic recreation to date.

A New Way to Experience Great Art

The collaboration reflects a growing movement within luxury and cultural institutions to make iconic artworks more accessible through immersive experiences.

Rather than viewing Klimt’s masterpiece from behind a gallery barrier, collectors can now engage with its intricate forms, rich textures and luminous composition piece by piece, gaining a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship that made the original painting a symbol of Art Nouveau.

It is an experience that transforms passive admiration into active participation.

Collectible Design for a New Generation

As collectible design continues to evolve, projects like this demonstrate how heritage brands and cultural institutions can collaborate without compromising artistic integrity.

For seasoned collectors, architecture enthusiasts and lovers of timeless design, the LEGO interpretation of The Kiss represents far more than a building set.

It is a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship and one of the greatest love stories ever captured on canvas—reimagined for a new generation of collectors.

Yasmin Furmie, co-founder of SiSi The Collection, talks to Grandiose about personal style, collecting with intention and building a design language that refuses to follow the crowd. She also reflects on reinvention, creative freedom and the importance of allowing yourself to change direction. Her philosophy is perhaps best captured in the words she uses to describe William Kentridge: “The work speaks for itself.”

KARUIZAWA 1960: THE WHISKY BOTTLE THAT EXISTS TWIC KARUIZAWA 1960: THE WHISKY BOTTLE THAT EXISTS TWICE IN HISTORY

On 18 September, Sotheby’s will offer one of the most extraordinary bottles in Japanese whisky collecting: Karuizawa 1960 Cask #5627, “The Prototype.”

Estimated at $400,000–$600,000, the bottle was drawn directly from Karuizawa’s oldest cask on 20 December 2012, before the celebrated 1960 vintage was commercially released.

Only two bottles were ever hand-filled directly from Cask #5627 at this pre-release stage.

This bottle was filled by Osami Uchibori, Karuizawa’s final Master Distiller, who had worked at the distillery since the cask was originally distilled in 1960.

Matured for 52 years, Cask #5627 ultimately yielded just 41 commercially available bottles.

The Prototype is more than an exceptionally rare whisky.

It is a surviving piece of a distillery that can never produce again.

Some bottles preserve whisky. Others preserve history.
