What happens when one of the world’s most prestigious automotive marques decides a superyacht isn’t exclusive enough?

For more than a century, Mercedes-Maybach has defined automotive luxury through craftsmanship, refinement and exclusivity. Now, the iconic German marque is taking those principles far beyond the road.

Introducing Beyond Horizons, a 155-metre floating members’ club that seeks to redefine how the world’s wealthiest individuals experience travel, community and luxury.

Developed by Maybach Ocean Club in partnership with German shipbuilder Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven, naval architects Dölker + Voges and Mercedes-Benz Design, the project is one of the most ambitious hospitality concepts currently under development.

And notably, it is not being built for a billionaire owner.

The End of the Owner’s Suite

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of Beyond Horizons is what it doesn’t include.

There is no owner’s suite.

No penthouse deck.

No ultra-exclusive apartment reserved for a single individual.

Instead, the vessel will feature 30 identical residential-style suites, each spanning approximately 74 square metres and complete with a private balcony.

The philosophy is simple.

Every member enjoys the same level of luxury.

In a world traditionally defined by hierarchy, Beyond Horizons proposes something radically different: a floating private club where access replaces ownership.

The Rise of Membership Luxury

Luxury has undergone a significant transformation over the past decade.

The world’s most affluent consumers increasingly prioritise experiences over possessions.

Private clubs have flourished.

Fractional ownership has expanded.

Invitation-only communities have become powerful status symbols.

Beyond Horizons brings all of these trends together.

The Maybach Ocean Club is expected to be limited to approximately 300 members worldwide, granting access to seasonal Mediterranean and Caribbean voyages, private events, cultural experiences and curated brand partnerships.

The yacht itself becomes less important than the community surrounding it.

A Floating Maybach

While the concept is innovative, the design remains unmistakably Maybach.

Under the direction of Mercedes-Benz Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener, the project translates the brand’s “Sensual Purity” design language into a maritime environment.

Flowing lines.

Rose-gold accents.

Cream-toned interiors.

Elegant proportions.

The result is a vessel that feels less like a conventional yacht and more like a floating Maybach residence.

Hospitality at Sea

With accommodation for just 72 guests and a crew of approximately 80 to 85, service levels are expected to rival the world’s finest private resorts.

Amenities include:

• A split-level infinity pool
• Multiple fine-dining venues
• Wellness and spa facilities
• Fitness and yoga studios
• Panoramic lounges
• A marina-style beach club
• Art exhibitions and cultural programming
• Live performances and private events

Every aspect has been designed to create an environment where luxury hospitality and private club culture intersect.

Sustainability Meets Superyachting

The project also reflects changing attitudes within the luxury sector.

Plans include green methanol or biodiesel propulsion systems, lower-impact materials and cruelty-free leather alternatives.

For a project of this scale, environmental responsibility is becoming part of the luxury conversation rather than an afterthought.

Grandiose Perspective

The most interesting aspect of Beyond Horizons is not its size.

Nor its design.

Nor even the prestige of the Maybach name.

It is the business model.

For generations, luxury has been defined by ownership.

Beyond Horizons suggests the next chapter may be defined by belonging.

The yacht becomes a platform.

The destination becomes secondary.

And the true luxury lies in access to a carefully curated global community.

If delivered as planned in 2029, Beyond Horizons may not simply be one of the world’s largest superyachts.

It could become one of the most influential luxury concepts of the decade. ∎

Before every Bentley becomes an icon, it begins as Before every Bentley becomes an icon, it begins as a sketch.

At the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bentley celebrated the art behind automotive design by inviting acclaimed illustrator Stefan Marjoram to become its Artist-in-Residence.

Rather than simply displaying extraordinary cars, Bentley transformed its pavilion into a live studio where visitors watched modern grand tourers and century-old classics come to life through hand-drawn illustrations.

It’s a reminder that true luxury starts long before the factory floor—with imagination, creativity and the first confident line of a pencil.

Because every masterpiece begins as an idea.
