Returning to Berlin this August, Forward Festival explores how designers, artists, technologists and entrepreneurs are transforming ideas into cultural impact.

Creativity begins with an idea.

Innovation begins with action.

This philosophy sits at the heart of Forward Festival Berlin 2026, which returns to Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) on 27 and 28 August 2026, bringing together some of the world’s most influential voices in design, visual culture, branding, technology and creative business.

Across two days, the internationally acclaimed festival will welcome more than 50 speakers spanning graphic design, typography, photography, motion design, advertising, digital innovation and entrepreneurship, reaffirming Berlin’s reputation as one of Europe’s most influential creative capitals.

From Inspiration to Impact

Rather than focusing solely on creative inspiration, this year’s edition is built around a clear theme:

Turn Ideas into Action.

The programme explores the often-overlooked journey between concept and execution, examining how ideas evolve through experimentation, collaboration and creative discipline before becoming meaningful cultural work.

Talks, panel discussions, exhibitions, workshops and networking events are designed to give attendees practical insight into the realities of contemporary creative practice.

An International Line-Up

Among this year’s headline speakers is celebrated designer Stefan Sagmeister, whose work has consistently challenged conventional thinking around design, happiness and everyday life.

Joining him is multidisciplinary visual artist Gab Bois, internationally recognised for transforming ordinary objects into surreal works of contemporary visual culture.

Digital design studio Anton & Irene, represented by Irene Pereyra, will share insights drawn from projects for brands including Spotify, IKEA and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The programme also features leading creative studios and practitioners including Dinamo, FutureDeluxe, Gemma O’Brien, The Mill, EY Doberman, The Good Grief Collective, Vera van de Seyp, Fake Plastic Brands, NotReal, Studio 11:40, Joe Taylor in collaboration with Procreate, and many more, with additional speakers still to be announced.

More Than a Conference

Forward Festival has evolved into something far beyond a traditional creative conference.

Throughout the HKW campus, talks are complemented by exhibitions, workshops, studio presentations, networking sessions and evening events that encourage collaboration between independent creatives, agencies, brands, entrepreneurs and students.

The result is a temporary creative ecosystem where conversations often become future partnerships.

It is precisely this exchange of ideas that has helped establish Forward Festival as one of Europe’s most respected platforms for contemporary creative culture.

Berlin as a Creative Capital

Since its founding in 2015, Forward Festival has celebrated the evolving relationship between creativity, technology and culture.

Berlin remains an ideal setting.

Long recognised for its thriving art scene, progressive design studios and entrepreneurial spirit, the city continues to attract creative talent from around the world.

Forward Festival reinforces that reputation by creating a space where established industry leaders and emerging voices meet on equal footing.

Grandiose Perspective

Today’s most influential creative ideas rarely emerge in isolation.

They develop through collaboration, experimentation and the willingness to challenge established thinking.

Forward Festival Berlin 2026 reflects that reality.

Rather than presenting creativity as a finished product, the festival celebrates it as an ongoing process—one driven by curiosity, craftsmanship and cultural exchange.

For designers, entrepreneurs and creative leaders alike, Berlin once again becomes a place where inspiration evolves into meaningful action, and where the next chapter of global creative culture begins to take shape. ∎

The Business of Being Yourself. Yasmin Furmie, co The Business of Being Yourself.

Yasmin Furmie, co-founder of SiSi The Collection, talks to Grandiose about personal style, collecting with intention and building a design language that refuses to follow the crowd. Her philosophy is perhaps best captured in the words she uses to describe William Kentridge designers including Lezanne Viviers, Thebe Magugu, Rich Mnisi, Sindiso Khumalo and Lukhanyo Mdingi, Furmie makes a compelling case for individuality, excellence and staying true to what you believe in.

She also reflects on reinvention, creative freedom and the importance of allowing yourself to change direction. Her philosophy is perhaps best captured in the words she uses to describe William Kentridge: “The work speaks for itself.”

KARUIZAWA 1960: THE WHISKY BOTTLE THAT EXISTS TWIC KARUIZAWA 1960: THE WHISKY BOTTLE THAT EXISTS TWICE IN HISTORY

On 18 September, Sotheby’s will offer one of the most extraordinary bottles in Japanese whisky collecting: Karuizawa 1960 Cask #5627, “The Prototype.”

Estimated at $400,000–$600,000, the bottle was drawn directly from Karuizawa’s oldest cask on 20 December 2012, before the celebrated 1960 vintage was commercially released.

Only two bottles were ever hand-filled directly from Cask #5627 at this pre-release stage.

This bottle was filled by Osami Uchibori, Karuizawa’s final Master Distiller, who had worked at the distillery since the cask was originally distilled in 1960.

Matured for 52 years, Cask #5627 ultimately yielded just 41 commercially available bottles.

The Prototype is more than an exceptionally rare whisky.

It is a surviving piece of a distillery that can never produce again.

Some bottles preserve whisky. Others preserve history.
