BRABUS has spent decades developing a particular visual and mechanical vocabulary on the road: dark finishes, carbon fibre, extraordinary power and a willingness to push conventional luxury towards something more expressive.
The Shadow 1000 XC Cross Cabin takes that philosophy onto the water.
At 38 feet, the flagship BRABUS Marine model combines a Black Ops exterior with extensive carbon-fibre detailing, a bespoke Masterpiece interior and twin Mercury Racing 500R V8 outboard engines producing a combined 1,000 hp.
Its claimed top speed reaches 60 knots, but the Shadow 1000 is not simply an exercise in maximum velocity. Its appeal lies in the combination of performance, design and the ability to transform a high-performance machine into a genuinely usable luxury environment.
Black Ops on the Water
The Shadow 1000’s exterior is immediately recognisable as BRABUS.
Dark finishes and exposed carbon fibre dominate the design, giving the 38-foot platform an aggressive visual character more closely associated with a BRABUS performance automobile than a conventional day boat.
Carbon elements are integrated throughout the exterior, including a redesigned LED roof-light configuration created specifically for the Shadow 38 platform.
The result is an angular, performance-oriented silhouette that retains enough visual restraint to avoid becoming theatrical for its own sake.
Inside, the darker exterior gives way to a more contrasting environment. Graphite upholstery is paired with lighter BRABUS Moonstone trim, while glossy carbon fibre and red accents continue the brand’s visual language into the cabin.
The configuration can also be tailored to the owner’s preferences, extending the bespoke philosophy beyond colour and trim.
1,000 Horsepower
The Shadow 1000 is powered by twin Mercury Racing 500R V8 outboard engines, producing a combined 735kW and 1,000hp.
The resulting performance is substantial for a 38-foot boat, with a claimed top speed of up to 60 knots and the immediate throttle response expected from a pair of high-output V8s.
Yet BRABUS has positioned the boat around more than outright speed.
The low- and mid-range response of the engines, combined with the boat’s handling characteristics, is intended to make performance accessible rather than simply spectacular on paper.
That distinction is important. A luxury performance boat must be enjoyable when pushed, but it also needs to work when the day becomes less about speed and more about being on the water.
Technology at the Helm
The Shadow 1000’s cockpit reflects that dual purpose.
Two 16-inch Simrad NSS EVO4 multifunction displays provide access to navigation and vessel data, while available systems include HALO 20+ radar, FLIR 360-degree night vision, a rear-view camera and advanced echo-sounder technology.
Joystick-controlled trim tabs and a bow thruster with JPO integration assist with manoeuvring and docking, giving the driver greater precision when operating at lower speeds.
Technology also extends into the experience itself. A BRABUS Premium Audio system, configurable RGB ambient lighting and dual-colour underwater lights add another layer to the onboard environment, while air conditioning supports comfort inside the cabin.
The signature Gullwing Doors provide direct access to the bow cabin, adding a distinctive visual feature without sacrificing functionality.
Masterpiece on the Water
The interior follows BRABUS’s Masterpiece philosophy, with the emphasis placed on materials, craftsmanship and personalisation.
Moonstone upholstery creates a lighter atmosphere inside the cabin, balanced by carbon elements and BRABUS detailing. The objective is not to reproduce the interior of a BRABUS automobile, but to translate the same attention to finish into a marine environment.
That approach continues across the deck.
Configurable layouts allow the Shadow 1000 to accommodate different uses, from high-speed cruising and watersports to entertaining and relaxation. Activity platforms extend usable space towards the water, while adaptable aft-deck arrangements, wet-bar solutions and generous storage allow the boat to respond to the owner’s lifestyle.
The result is a boat designed to be lived with rather than simply displayed.

That may ultimately be the Shadow 1000’s most compelling characteristic.
Its 1,000 horsepower and 60-knot capability establish its performance credentials, but the interior and deck configuration acknowledge that luxury on the water is rarely about one activity.
The same boat can be used for an early morning run, an afternoon spent entertaining friends or an evening anchored offshore.
That versatility gives the Shadow 1000 a broader identity than a conventional performance boat.
