Johannesburg’s leading contemporary art fair returns to the Sandton Convention Centre from 4–6 September 2026, bringing together galleries, artists, collectors, institutions and cultural thinkers from across Africa and the diaspora.

FNB Art Joburg returns to the Sandton Convention Centre from 4–6 September 2026, marking the 19th edition of the contemporary art fair and once again placing Johannesburg at the centre of Africa’s rapidly evolving art landscape.

Celebrated as the leading and longest-running contemporary African art fair on the continent, FNB Art Joburg has established itself as an important meeting point for the commercial, curatorial and cultural forces shaping contemporary African art.

For its 2026 edition, the fair brings together leading galleries and artists alongside emerging practitioners, art institutions, publishers and collectors, creating an environment where commerce and critical discourse exist side by side.

Where Art, Collecting and Culture Meet

The 2026 edition is structured around eight specialised sections:

gallery HUB, gallery LAB, ARC, MAX, GIF, INK, AUX and ORG.

Together, these platforms allow FNB Art Joburg to move beyond the traditional gallery-fair model, presenting everything from established commercial galleries to experimental projects, large-scale installations, printmaking, publishing and institutional interventions.

The result is a fair designed not only for established collectors, but also for audiences discovering contemporary African art for the first time.

A Strong African and Diasporic Presence

The exhibitor list reflects the increasingly international character of Johannesburg’s contemporary art ecosystem.

Among the participating galleries and organisations are Goodman Gallery, Everard Read, Gallery MOMO, Candice Berman, Stevenson, David Krut Projects, First Floor Gallery Harare, Forster Gallery Zanzibar, Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute, The Space Ethiopia, Wunika Mukan Gallery, Galarie MALABO, Modzi Arts Gallery, WORLDART, White River Gallery and Yenwa Gallery, alongside numerous other exhibitors.

The presence of galleries from across the continent reinforces FNB Art Joburg’s role as a platform connecting Johannesburg’s art market with a wider African creative economy.

The fair will also feature the Johannesburg Art Gallery, Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art, Artist Proof Studio and a range of print, publishing and cultural organisations.

Beyond the Gallery Floor

FNB Art Joburg’s programme extends beyond the commercial presentation of artworks.

The fair’s educational and audience-development initiatives include the BMW Collectors Co., The BMW Art Generation and Open City, creating opportunities for collectors, emerging audiences and the wider public to engage with contemporary art beyond the traditional transaction.

This combination of collecting, education and cultural programming has become central to the fair’s identity.

Johannesburg as an African Art Capital

There is also significance in the location.

By returning to the Sandton Convention Centre, FNB Art Joburg reinforces Johannesburg’s position as one of the continent’s most important centres for contemporary art, collecting and cultural exchange.

For three days, the city becomes a meeting point for artists, galleries, collectors, curators, institutions and creative practitioners from across Africa and beyond.

And for collectors, the fair offers something increasingly valuable: direct access to the artists and galleries defining the next chapter of African contemporary art.

A Fair With Commercial Ambition and Cultural Purpose

The importance of FNB Art Joburg lies in its ability to operate between two worlds.

It is a commercial art fair, providing a marketplace for artists and galleries, but it is also a platform for dialogue, experimentation and discovery.

That balance is increasingly important as international interest in African contemporary art continues to expand.

For its 19th edition, FNB Art Joburg once again invites Johannesburg to participate in that conversation.

FNB Art Joburg takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 4–6 September 2026. Tickets are now available.

Before every Bentley becomes an icon, it begins as Before every Bentley becomes an icon, it begins as a sketch.

At the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bentley celebrated the art behind automotive design by inviting acclaimed illustrator Stefan Marjoram to become its Artist-in-Residence.

Rather than simply displaying extraordinary cars, Bentley transformed its pavilion into a live studio where visitors watched modern grand tourers and century-old classics come to life through hand-drawn illustrations.

It’s a reminder that true luxury starts long before the factory floor—with imagination, creativity and the first confident line of a pencil.

Because every masterpiece begins as an idea.
